Most people think of setting a moving date after they have sold or rented their home. But what if you don’t have a choice? If you’re moving for a job, school, or family reasons you may need to start the packing and moving process before your home is actually sold. This can often make the moving experience more stressful. It is hard to pack when you feel the pressure to keep your home in perfect condition for showings and potential buyers. Potential buyers want to look inside a home that is clean, clutter free, and ready to move into. Real estate agents always tell their clients to spruce up their home with a new paint job, new carpet, and to fix all the little odds and ends around the home. This can be challenging to do when you’re busy packing and moving. Here are some tips on getting your home ready to sell.
1. Keep it clean. Since you will already be packing up you certainly don’t want buyers to see boxes all over the house. Instead, pack up the closets and basement and take everything over to a nearby storage unit. It will keep your home clean and free from clutter when people come by for a viewing
2.Start with the repairs. If you are making small repairs and changes to fix up your home you can put some of the furniture and other items away in self storage. This will make painting, changing the carpet, and other household repairs much easier to do. Plus you won’t have to worry about ruining any of your furniture or other items.
3. Start packing as soon as possible. Since you have a set date for your moving day you should already be in the process of moving. Many potential buyers want a place they can move into immediately. Make your home look less lived in by putting as much as possible into storage and packing up the rest. This will also help you when moving day comes around! You can simply have the movers from Boyer- Rosene head to your storage unit and load items from there.
4. Ask neighbors for help. If you find yourself in the position of having to move before the house is sold don’t just walk away. Ask friends, family, or neighbors to help with the upkeep of the house and yard. Or you can hire someone to work on the maintenance of the home while you’re away.
5. Is renting an option? If you are still having trouble selling your home you may want to consider renting it out. This will give you more time to find potential buyers and you won’t be settled with more than one mortgage.
